Tour Overview
In the third century B.C., Emperor Asoka constructed the first temple in the Mahabodhi Temple Complex; the current temple was constructed between the fifth and sixth centuries. The current Mahabodhi Temple Complex at Bodh Gaya consists of the 50 m high grand Temple, the Vajrasana, the sacred Bodhi Tree, and other six sacred sites related to Buddha's enlightenment.
Tips The entry to the temple is free. Darshan Timings: 5:00 AM – 9:00 PM, open every day. At the temple, 30-minute chanting sessions are held between 5:30 AM and 6:00 PM. On the temple premises, using any electrical equipment is prohibited (viz. mobile, camera, laptop). There is free storage for the same available at the temple's entrance. There is no facility provided for older citizens and those with disabilities. However, if necessary, a wheelchair can be provided. The summers are very hot in Gaya, so don’t forget to apply sunscreen and hydrate yourself from time to time.
